Stormy Daniels skips appearance on 'The View'
Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump is upset with White House press secretary Sarah Sanders over her responses Wednesday regarding his alleged affair with porn star Stormy Daniels, a source close to the White House tells CNN.

Daniels, whose legal name is Stephanie Clifford, filed suit against Trump this week alleging he hadn't signed a nondisclosure agreement that would have prevented her from discussing their alleged sexual affair.
On Wednesday, Sanders told reporters that the arbitration was won "in the President's favor." The statement is an admission that the nondisclosure agreement exists, and that it directly involves the President. It is the first time the White House has admitted the President was involved in any way with Daniels.

The precious gems collection kept at the Prague National Museum has been found to contain several fakes.

A diamond has been revealed to be a cut piece of glass, while half of its collection of rubies are synthetic stones.

The 'diamond', acquired in the 1960s, was thought to be a 5-carat gem, when in fact it was a worthless fake.

The discovery was made during an inspection of the museum's 5,000 precious stones and minerals held in the Czech Republic's capital.

'What we have here is still a sapphire, but it is not a natural stone as was documented when the museum gained it for its collection in the 1970s,' Ivo Macek, head of the museum's precious stones department, told Radio.cz

'It was artificially created so it does not have the value we thought it did. It was acquired for 200 thousand crowns and today it would have been worth tens of millions.

'And what we thought to be a 5-carat diamond was in fact plain glass given a diamond cutting.'

The Museum says they do not know how the fakes ended up in their collection, and is carrying out an investigation.

It is not known if the stones were already fake when they were aquired by the Museum in the 60s and 70s.

It is also not known if they were added on purpose, or if staff at the time did not have the expertise to catch the fakery.

Poll: Majority of Americans disagree with Trump’s proposal to arm teachers - MSNBC News

Poll: Majority of Americans disagree with Trump’s proposal to arm teachers
by ANDREW ARENGE and STEPHANIE PERRY

A majority of Americans disagree with President Donald Trump’s proposal to arm teachers, according to results from a new NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll.

Trump, in the aftermath of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, last month, has said that arming some of America's teachers with concealed weapons and training them to "immediately fire back" at a "sicko" gunman would end school shootings once and for all. But many gun violence experts, educators, and school safety advocates — as well as 56 percent of Americans surveyed — were against the idea.

Still, a sizable 42 percent of people surveyed said they agree with Trump's proposal. A whooping 80 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaners are on board with arming teachers, while 88 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaners disagree with it. A majority of Independents, 64 percent, also disagree with the plan.

According to the poll, 55 percent disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job as president. Americans are also dissatisfied or angry about the way Congress and Trump have handled gun control, though there are stark differences by party.

Republicans are more enthusiastic about how Trump has handled gun control than how Congress has handled the issue, with 78 percent of Republicans surveyed saying they are enthusiastic or satisfied with how Trump has approached gun control so far. Only 43 percent of Republicans feel the same about Congress.

The president has said he will ban rapid-fire gun bump stocks, which allow weapons to fire more quickly, through executive order, but also mystified lawmakers earlier this month by seeming to embrace a series of gun control measures his party has long rejected.

Meanwhile, both Democrats and Independents take a dim view of both Trump and Congress on the issue.

Majorities of Independents — 72 percent — say they are dissatisfied or angry about the way Trump has handled gun control, and 84 percent feel that way about Congress. A whopping 9 in 10 Democrats are dissatisfied or downright angry at both Congress and Trump when it comes to gun control. Despite increased public pressure since the Parkland shooting, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has given no indication when — or if — he would bring up any form of gun-related legislation.

A narrow bipartisan proposal that would attempt to shore up the National Instant Background Check System has at least 50 co-sponsors, but it has not been brought to the floor — and GOP lawmakers have been unable to reach a consensus on what they support.

Still, a majority of Americans, 61 percent, think government and society can take action that will be effective in preventing shootings like the one in Parkland, Florida from happening again. Thirty-six percent think school shootings like Parkland will happen again regardless of what action is taken by government and society.

There are once again glaring differences by party, however. Majorities of Democrats (84 percent) and Independents (53 percent) think that government and society can take action to prevent shootings. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans, on the other hand, think that shootings will happen again regardless of what government or societal action is taken.

The NBC News|SurveyMonkey poll was conducted from February 26-February 28, 2018, among a national sample of 2,857 adults. Respondents for this nonprobability survey were selected from the nearly three million people who take surveys on the SurveyMonkey platform each day. Results have an error estimate of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has said “the White House is getting hollowed out” as top-level officials continue to leave President Donald Trump’s administration.

“The number of people capable of doing things - doing real things, whether you agree or disagree ideologically - is getting smaller and smaller,” Mr Schumer told reporters at a news conference.

And the White House seems “unable to recruit new people to take these jobs,” he added.

Trump says 'everyone wants to work in the White House'
The President’s top economic adviser, Gary Cohn, announced on Wednesday that he planned to resign, the latest in a string of high-profile departures from the White House.

During a White House briefing, reporters grilled Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders about why so many people are leaving the administration.

“This is an intense place, as is every White House,” Ms Sanders said. “And it’s not abnormal that you would have people come and go.”

While every administration suffers from a revolving door of personnel, Mr Trump’s White House has a staff turnover rate of 34 per cent – a level that has not been seen for decades, according to the Brookings Institution think tank.

“No administration in recent history has had this much turnover,” ABC News reporter Cecilia Vega told Ms Sanders. “If this is not the definition of chaotic, how would you describe what’s happening in these recent weeks?”

Ms Sanders responded by declaring that if the White House was as chaotic as reports say, “then I don’t think we would have been able to accomplish all that we’ve done”.

“The economy is stronger than it’s been in ages,” Ms Sanders said. “Isis is on the run. Making of the judiciary jobs are coming in at record numbers. There are historic things that have taken place in the first year. Sounds like a very functioning place of business to me.”

Mr Trump said on Tuesday that “everybody wants to work in the White House”.

“They all want a piece of that Oval Office; they want a piece of the West Wing,” he added during a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.

Earlier, the President had dismissed reports of chaos in the White House while hinting that the staff shakeup will continue.
