It's basically the Pandora's Box of the 21st century, with social media philosophers plagued with intrigue as to its contents since Donald Trump's inauguration.

Yep, it's the mystery of what's in the pale blue Tiffany-branded gift that Melania Trump slipped into Michelle Obama's hands a year ago.

It was clear at the time that Obama had no idea what to do with it, awkwardly looking around for a place to put it.

Now, she has finally broken her silence, revealing that the gift was in fact a picture frame in an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The former First Lady said in the interview:

It was a lovely frame.

She added:

There’s all this protocol. This is like a state visit. They tell you you’re going to do this, you’re going to stand here.

Never before do you get this gift, so I’m sort of like, ‘OK, what am I supposed to do with this gift?'

She continued:

Everyone cleared out and no one would come and take the box. I’m thinking, do we take the picture with [it]? Then my husband saved the day. He grabbed the box and took it back inside.

So, thankfully, it seems the box does not in fact contain the world's evils, unlike the Greek myth equivalent – though some people on Twitter remain unconvinced.

She wanted her to have a frame to put her picture of her husband in so Michelle could remember her husband. Cause no one's going to remember anything he actually did by 2024. Boom. That's what you do with it.

Turns out the gift Michelle Obama gave Melania was a box containing a rope ladder, Groucho glasses, a fake passport, and $10,000 in cash.
